It's hard to give this walk an overall rank of difficulty and it would vary quite a bit depending on the exact route you took. All of my observations are from the point of view of having reasonable experience with bushwalking and off track walking.

Distance: No problems here. You could do the whole thing as a day walk if you knew where you were going. Otherwise it is a fairly easy days walk each way.

Route Finding: Mostly fine as there is either well established foot pads or following an obvious ridge. There are two spots that can be tricky. Finding the track down to the base of Laidley Ck Falls (because of numerous foot pads) and getting up onto Mt. Castle (because of the lack of foot pads and steep terrain.

Terrain: There are definitely some steep, and often slippery, sections but they don't continue for very long.

Exposure: If you don't take the direct ridge route to HITW but rather detour via the base of the falls, and steer clear of the pinnacle on top of Mt. Castle there isn't too many problems here either. You can walk on one side or the other of the razorback ridge in most places.

Overall I guess I'd rank it as a 3 to 4 out of 5 depending on the route you take.

Hope this helps and let me know if you have any further questions.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09671166965046580819noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5096435580240745375.post-89262228814385662152013-07-31T18:31:19.961-07:002013-07-31T18:31:19.961-07:00Hi Cameron,

I am planning to walk out there soon. I have been out to Hole in the Wall on a day walk before but never further. I would like to spend the night on top the mountain, but maybe will drop the through packs at Laidley creek Falls, then head out to Mt Castle and back in one day and camp before walking back to Sylvesters the next morning.Evelyn Chttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12835179559783291565noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5096435580240745375.post-41705584829165000652011-08-21T16:23:18.855-07:002011-08-21T16:23:18.855-07:00Hi Phil,
